Partnership with Parents
We recognise that the majority of learning
happens at home; therefore we welcome input
from parents. We meet with parents once a term
to discuss the children's progress and there are
also daily opportunities to talk to staff members
about a child's day. We issue termly newsletters
detailing important dates and information about
the nursery.
Key Person
Each child is assigned a key person in order to give
the child reassurance to feel safe and cared for
while at nursery. Due to our small friendly
environment the children in our care will form close
bonds with all the staff at the setting.
Early Years
Foundation Stage
The EYFS helps children develop the understanding,
skills and attitudes they will need later in life. Giant
Steps Nursery considers each child's needs through
observations and assessments. We then provide
learning opportunities that reflect the development
of each child. We will aim to ensure that children feel
included, secure and valued. The guidance sets out
six areas of learning which form the basis of the
EYFS. These areas are:
- Personal, Social & Emotional Development
- Communication, Language & Literacy
- Problem Solving, Reasoning & Numeracy
- Knowledge & Understanding of the World
- Physical Development
- Creative Development
Free Flow
Giant Steps operates a free flow system into a
lovely garden space. The garden offers areas for the
children to play, explore and develop a wide
range of skills. We have our own vegetable patch, a
nature area for bug hunting and a digging and
building zone.
We have also created an enclosed covered baby
garden which has soft matting and a range of
activities for the children to enjoy.
Links with other settings
Some children attend other settings. In line with the
Early Years Foundation Stage we aim to liaise and share
information of children's progress and development.
